Wildlife Photography: Capturing Images With Character
October 26, 2011 by Digital Photography
Wildlife photography can inspire photographers of almost any experience level. You don’t need a fancy camera or years of training; anyone with a camera can capture great wildlife images.
For an inexperienced photographer, it is easy to be disappointed with the quality of your results. You see the great photography that can be found in galleries, on calendars and postcards, and wonder why you are not getting the same results.
These days, unfortunately, our first tendency is to blame the camera, assuming that the professionals have much better cameras than yours. Even worse, many people even assume the images are not genuine photos at all; they must have been enhanced or even manufactured on a computer.
The truth is, you don’t need an expensive camera or to be an expert with software to produce good wildlife photos. Don’t forget, great wildlife photography existed long before digital cameras arrived on the scene. In fact, you don’t even need special techniques to take better wildlife photos. There are some simple things you can do that can help you take better wildlife photos no matter what sort of camera you have, or how expert you are in photography.
Here are some simple, low-tech tips for better wildlife photography.
Wildlife Photography Tip #1. Context Matters. A wildlife photo looks best if it is taken in a natural setting, or at least looks that way. You should always consider the background in a wildlife photo. If it is obvious your photo was taken in a zoo, for example, the connection with nature is broken and the background spoils the shot.
]]>
Just why is it that some people, when they find a small animal like a frog, a beetle or a lizard…feel the need to pick it up? A photo of an animal in your hand is just the same as the zoo photo – it destroys the illusion of nature that you wanted to capture in the first place. If you can photograph your subject in a natural setting, with the colours of nature in the background, your photo will be much more attractive.
Wildlife Photography Tip #2. If The Background Is Distracting, Get Rid Of It. Sometimes a great subject is found in a terrible setting, and there is nothing you can do to change that. You can, however, minimize the distraction of an unfortunate background, and you don’t need a computer to do it.
Simply get as close to the subject as possible and zoom in with your largest lens. This reduces the depth of field so much that only your subject should be in focus. If any of the background is visible, it will be so far out of focus it won’t be a problem.
Wildlife Photography Tip #3. Unusual Behaviour Makes Unique Photographs. Be patient when taking your wildlife photos. Photography competitions around the world are loades with photos that are perfectly exposed, but completely dull and uninteresting. The shots that stand out are the ones where the subject does something out of the ordinary. I am not talking about tap-dancing in a tutu; all it takes is a yawn, a wink, an interesting turn of the head, a head tucked under a wing…simple things that will set your photo apart from millions of others.
Animals sometimes turn up in unexpected locations which can also add interest to a photo. A kangaroo in the grass is not so unique, but find one on the beach and you have a photo on your hands.
Wildlife Photography Tip #4. The Eyes Are The Key To A Successful Photo. Above all when shooting your wildlife photos, concentrate your attention on the eyes. This is the feature that creates a personal connection between the subject and the viewer. If the eyes are out of focus or lost in shadow, the connection is lost. On the other hand, if the subject is mostly out of focus, or even hidden behind a bush, you can still get a great photo…as long as the eyes are sharp and well captured.
So there you have four easy tips that can add character to your wildlife photography. Note that none of them require special equipment or complex techniques. Like so much of nature photography, a good image is not about technology; it is about timing, patience, and your sensitivity to the subject. Happy Snapping!

Nature photography is a wonderful endeavor that we all find a pleasing pursuit. It’s usual when you see something exciting; you want to capture it in some way. Nature photography is extremely competitive. You have to be an incredible photographer with good images. There are so many reasons why an image becomes a good stock photo. A photograph is only a good stock photo if a customer is willing to present you reward for the use of that photo. Cameras are a great way to do this. I believe a high quality camera enables you to create professional quality picture.
It is important to get the best equipment considering your budget. Some of the important factors which you should keep in mind while choosing camera:-
Digital vs. Film:-One of the important decisions you will face is whether use digital or film. Today’s Digital cameras are used to capture high quality photos under different conditions. Most digital cameras come with options to shoot macro, portrait, and high speed and several other setting. Knowing how to use your camera is very important in creating quality images, which generally comes when you spent more time with the camera.
]]>
Lens:-If you want to capture the beauty of nature in your camera then, it’s important to know about lens that you will need to use for taking photographs of nature. For most of the nature photographs you will need to have lens in the range between 300-400mm.
Resolution:-Even the cheapest cameras provide minimum 5 megapixels which is quite good for creating 11*14 –inch photos. Resolution is measured in pixel. The more pixels a camera has the more features it can capture and give in even bigger print without becoming fuzzy.
Try to find rechargeable batteries:-Most of the photographers prefer rechargeable batteries. It becomes quite costly when you have to buy disposable batteries again and again. You have two choices when it comes to digital camera batteries: rechargeable AA or camera-specific battery packs. These batteries can be recharged hundred of times.

Nature Photography Captures Natural Beauty
October 19, 2011 by Digital Photography

Some photographers need to get special clothes for their subjects or bring makeup designers to fix the faces of their subjects. Some have to use atmosphere brushes to make their own subjects appear younger or prettier. Nature photography aims to capture the beauty of the actual natural world, and there is plenty of material for their mission. The artists of nature photography seek out the actual glorious creatures and moments that appear in the natural world. They do not usually have to apply anything to make their subjects more glorious. The stripes on a zebra or the markings on a lion provide plenty of material for the great photography enthusiasts of nature.
The beauty inherent in nature does not mean these photographers can just stage their cameras and take their subjects. Their enthusiasm for nature photography prospects them to find aesthetic angles for their photos. Nature photography usually utilizes natural light to catch the images. The light from the sun is their friend and also their adversary. The great photographers associated with nature photography must know and use this resource which are more spectacular effects. A magnificent hill photographed at dawn will most likely provide a more wonderful photograph than the same mountain photographed at noon.

Nature Photography Captures Diversity
The photographers devoted to capturing the images from character have a wide variety of subjects. They have black bears in the mountains or white bears on the glaciers. These photographers capture the vicious lions devouring a helpless, gentle creature. These photographers capture images of towering mountains or the barren deserts around the world. Their subjects are everywhere. Photography enthusiasts devoted to nature have subjects in Kenya yet others in Mongolia. There are fantastic photographs from Timbuktu and others from Los Angeles. These photographers capture delicate orchids in Bangkok and tacky cacti in Phoenix.
The great photographers of nature have provided information for generations in the future. Their subjects include unique monkeys that might not survive until the next millennium. They capture the prairies that might be full of housing developments in two decades time. Their subjects which roam free currently may appear in zoos a hundred years from now. Some of their subjects are easily viewed today but may be controlled by a ruthless dictator who outlaws tourists the coming year. The work of the photographers of nature provides the current population with images from nature that has been transformed since they snapped individuals pictures. The photographers devoted to nature now capture moments and creatures that may vanish before the next generation reaches see them.

How To Learn Your Technical Skills In Nature Photography

Photography is the art of creating a special medium beyond your self-expression. It requires good taste, good sense of appreciation and technical skills in capturing the subjects. Many believe that they can profit in this chosen field as long as they develop their technical skills and knowledge in becoming a talented professional photographer.
Nature photography has always been inspiring and exciting. It thrills every photographer with its mystery and the beauty of wildlife.
One of the most amusing subjects for nature photographers are the birds.
Bird behavior has had great impact on pictures. Birds attract many photographers with their mastery of flight and their distinct diversity in nature.
Here are some guides that will help you focus on improving your skill in capturing images on these magnificent creatures of nature.
]]>
1. You need to know what interests your mind. You have to know your topics so that you will not be confused. You should learn more about birds by investing on a good birding guide. This will help you know more about their behavior, breeding season, and bird eating habits.
2. You should always keep your subjects well being in mind. Avoid those instances that create stress on your images. If the bird is not in its natural behavioral characteristic, you should leave the bird alone and allow the bird to recover first from its stress.
It can also be a sign that the bird might be nesting eggs somewhere near the site and that is why it portrays a “predator luring” behavior.
3. You should make your vehicle as your just like your camera an accessory. In some areas, you may see birds more adapted to vehicles and consider your vehicle less harmless than a person positioned on his tripod trying to take a good shot. You should learn how to be patient in finding the right place where the birds can accept the presence of your vehicle.
4. You may use fast shutter speeds cameras. This device is good in taking great bird images. Most birds are fast and can disappear quickly in the air. You may need a 1/500 second shuttering speed. This can capture sudden movements and flights.
As a nature photographer, you should maximize your surroundings. A good place for you to start your hobby in nature photography especially with birds is in your own backyard.
You can then practice the art and techniques of capturing great shots and wonderful images that nature has to offer.

The Main Tendency in Denver Wedding Photography is Very Best in Quality
October 13, 2011 by Digital Photography
During the years weddings highly have turned subjects with the pairs customized that their responsibility for memorialize wedding of the best possible way. The photography of the wedding is developed to remain generally excellent and in sync. Some of the last tendencies of the city of Denver appear here. The main tendency in Denver wedding photography is very best in quality. The photography of the wedding of photojournalistic lets the day of the union reveal naturally. Nor does it play an active role in the presentation for the shots; the photographer captures each event where it happens. This style in Denver wedding photography gives rise to more real and sincere photographs lives. But an important disadvantage in this style of photography is the photographic when an inexperienced journalist certain shots not can capture the light well use normal atmosphere.
If you choose to work with the photojournalistic style, it is certainly historical wedding photography Denver is experienced in this method. The typical wedding photography Denver of the new tendency will combine this with the more timeless traditional style. The Denver wedding photography seems to create albums of the wedding like never before. Not only it emphasize the best moments of the wedding it but also offers a complete file of special historical day. Acclaimed have many photographers east style of the Denver wedding photography and the sincere have chosen that is similar photojournalistic photography.
The unique difference between these two styles one in photojournalism that is one shots combine to create an argument that is dramatic. The sincere photography on the one hand is recliner and reflects the general sensation of a wedding. Another tendency in photography of the wedding is when it appears to be creative sincere. This style is a mixture of the sincere and recliner photography. The wedding photography Denver photographs also sincere creative practices today. Instead of passive to sit down now where the events reveal the works of the photographer to determine a good shot sincere without the timeless style of the presentation. But not does it matter where you go, are all these styles limited by a common thread of spiral. Nobody today has taste of a picture seems that displayed.
The pairs would want that their pictures seemed sincere and it is as natural as possible. Such natural compositions in the pictures bring the heat to the whole album, something that the Denver wedding photography lacked. That the style you choose for historical photographs of the wedding must-also match the style of special day. The relaxed style adapts sincere for a relaxed ceremony of the destination. The wedding photography Denver can make demands of the overflow on generally similar styles and sounds in historical thrown but the quality of photographs in the end vary it is very important therefore hyped for the judge entre a scheme of a genuine and sincere commercialization photographer.
Instead of the investigation in the photographers of the wedding based on demands of the photographic knowledge, one must secure a firsthand view of work of and choose the one that impresses more to him. In spite of local tendencies, the Denver wedding photography today has an enormous data base of the photographers to choose of, all of whom it will offer his own customized approach to him. One must analyze critically each of style of these photographers to match the historical one’s own and to join the perfect album of the photography of the wedding.

Art Directors, Editors and Stock Photography

A woman and a barrel
About a month ago I submitted a stock photo of a woman wearing nothing but a barrel, a modern take-off of an old image for having lost everything, to Getty Images.
They turned it down because they didn’t think it would sell. OK, I next sent the image to Corbis. They turned it down because it was “an old idea”. A few minutes ago I was in the grocery store and there, on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, was a shot of several movie stars wearing nothing but barrels.
Photographer’s Choice…an option at a price
Whether or not my image will sell will be eventually answered because when Corbis turned the shot down I re-submitted it to Getty as a “Photographer’s Choice” submission. Getty, in response to numerous complaints over a protracted period of time by their photographers, came up with Photographer’s Choice brand. It is a program in which an image can only be rejected for technical reasons (though “sisters” are not allowed either). Of course, the photographer then has to pay a fee to have the image put into the system.
What is the value of an editor or art director?
This all brings up a couple of questions. First, what is the value of an editor or art director, and what recourse do we have if we believe an editor to be mistaken? I know that in my own case it does seem to be a conundrum. I have certainly have had the experience of having an art director offer criticism and art direction that has enhanced my images, sometimes by a huge margin. Editors have given me some awesome ideas as well. I have also had them make changes that I believe were actually to the detriment of a given image. Then there are the editing choices. I am sure that any photographer who actively submits images to stock agencies has had the experience of bewilderment in reaction to photos that editors have rejected.
]]>
Among my favorites: An image turned down by Getty was then used as a catalog cover for The Stock Market and the first sale was for ,000.00. Another image turned down by Getty was used by The Stock Market to represent the agency in trade shows. An image turned down by Corbis has generated ,000.00+ in the six months it has been for sale on the Getty site! An image of a young girl dressed as an astronaut, turned down by both Getty and Corbis, and then put into Getty’s Photographer’s Choice program, is my fifth best selling stock photo for 2008! I could go on and on with examples of images being rejected by one agent and taken by another; and examples of rejected images that eventually get placed and subsequently earn excellent revenue.
Now I no longer have an editor at Getty. Instead I submit via their portal and I never know which individual will be doing the editing. I love their portal, I don’t miss the art direction, and I occasionally wish there was someone I could turn to at Getty to bounce ideas off of, get feedback from, and help me decide wither an image belongs in RM or RF. I also know that their choices sometimes make me crazy! At least Getty has that Photographer’s Choice mechanism to provide some remedy for the stock images that I believe strongly about. BTW, virtually every photographer I know who participates in Photographer’s Choice tells me that they earn more per image with PC than with the regular brands. I don’t know if everyone is being truthful, but that is what I am hearing!
Optimization for distribution and licensing
Now in Micro stock, if you are not “exclusive”, you can always submit the images to another agency. For me though, since I do not participate in Micro, I now have a new option, adding rejected images that I believe in to my own web site. It is yet another way in which having a web site can pay off. I recently read that over half of all art directors are willing to search individual photographer’s sites for stock images. I’ll bet that percentage just keeps going up as Art Directors get more and more tired of the same old images and photographers get smarter and smarter about optimizing their sites for distribution and licensing over the net.
Getting back to art directors and editors. There is no doubt that they provide a valuable service; and equally in doubt is that due to the subjective and arbitrary nature of photography, they are not always right. In those cases where you can actually correspond with an editor, fight for the images you believe in. I find that in those cases I usually prevail about half the time. In those cases where you don’t have that opportunity to correspond, send that image to another outlet or put it up on your own site. If you believe in your image someone else well too; you just have to get that image in front of those other believers!

Natural Lighting In The 3D World
October 6, 2011 by Digital Photography
Natural lighting is something we encounter every day. Although as animators, seeing daylight may be infrequent! Light coming through the windows, skylights, and direct sunlight are just a sampling of effects that can be duplicated in your 3D application.
Direct sunlight can be a challenge to work with and it is photographed in many different ways. Outdoor photography enjoys the benefit of having sunlight as a natural light source, but you frequently have to account for dark hard-edged shadows with diffusers or fill lights. When re-creating sunlight, it is best to use a directional light as your sunlight source, because directional lights cast parallel rays. Although the sun cast parallel rays, we perceive the rays to be parallel on earth.
In your 3D application, a new directional light, Target Direct, enables you to define a directional light similar to a spotlight. This takes out most, if not all, of the aiming guesswork. When creating the light that will act as your sun, remember to think of what time of day it is. Some animators like to use the Sunlight system when building the sun. With the Sunlight system, you can automatically create a sun source that you can adjust based on the time of day, year, and location on the planet. One effect that’s not taken into account in your 3D application automatically is the color of the sun based on the time of day.
The real sun rays pass through varying amounts of our atmosphere based on the time of day. you will notice that the sun is brightest about midday, while it is a deep reddish orange during the dawn and dusk hours. Recreating this is as simple as changing the color of the sun light source. you will probably need to use fill lights as well. Sunlight is very bright, and as a result, a great deal of light is reflected off of various surfaces.

How To Use Natural Light To Take Photos Of Your Newborn
October 4, 2011 by Digital Photography
The baby finally is here, so everyone wants photos! However, every time you want to take photos, the beautiful baby turns out like a wrinkled little old man rather than a gorgeous being that he is. So I decided to provide you with some tips on how to pictures of your newborn ang get the best results. First: You need to turn the Flash off! Using window light as a source of natural light is the best type of light you can use to capture pictures of your baby baby. So, just search for a window which has a lot of good light try not to use direct sun light, but go for indirect sunlight. Then, remove clutter and other stuff from the shots background by putting your baby inside a carrier and cover the carrier with a solid blanket that covers it, or even simpler, put it on a bed that has white sheets on. Remove babies clothing except the diapers. The less clothing he has the better it is for newborn photography as it really emphasizes the baby because they dont tend to fit clothing very well in this age, plus clothing acts more as a distraction. If diapers have any cartoons imprinted on, try covering them by folding the diapers over, or by putting some fabric over the area that has cartoons even more drastic, remove the diaper! You have to work fast if you decide to take this route. After you get the camera ready, make sure babys body and face are turned towards the natural light coming from outside through the window, and then start taking photos using different angles. Try filling the entire frame using the baby plus the solid sheet or blanket again try to avoid items or clutter which could get into your way. Dont try getting the baby to smile – only take a few images using different angles, some of baby looking towards the camera plus some of baby\’s profile, then some of the heads top. Keep changing angles while singing and talking to the baby and try engaging him. If he starts fussing, try and soothe him and when he is calm, take another shot. If the baby falls asleep, no problem take pictures while he is sleeping! Take more photos than you actually need youll never know which pictures youll like. Get come half body, full body, close ups of hands, face, feet plus all the other memorable, cute, body parts for example the funny hair lines, the wrinkly shoulders, his funny mouth, lips, and much more. And in the end, its time to develop the pictures either on your PC or in a lab, for developing the pictures, take your time and go through them again, and look at them with an artistic eye, and remember that you have captured the most important moments of your children forever on the camera!
